Growing the Economy and Jobs
- Advancing "Innovate Spotsy!" - an economic roadmap to the innovation economy that creates high growth companies and great jobs.
- Since 2008 - and through the deepest part of the national financial crisis - created 3700 jobs (VEDP, Spotsylvania County, VJIP).
- Opened the doors to the new hospital, creating a healthcare industry cluster and jobs.
- Pushed for road and capital projects - saved money with lower bids, saved and created more jobs.
Investing in Our Future
- Fought for investments in education, higher teacher pay, smaller classrooms.
- Launching Kids First Project
- Strengthen Kid's Faith in Democracy - show kids politics can be a positive tool to do good things for our community.
- Strengthen Kids' Minds - use readers or tablets instead of textbooks and expand Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives.
- Strengthen Kids' Health - engage kids and parents in the importance of nutrition and buying from local farmers, and create a community garden, farmers' market and co-op at the old Mullins farm we saved in 2003.
Strong Fiscal Management
- Managed the budget during financial crisis, cutting $60 million over two years, while investing in core services like education, public safety and transportation - key ingredients for job growth.
- Kept spending and taxes low.
- Increased County's credit rating, saving millions in interest on capital projects.
- Launched reinventing government to find efficiencies and reforms.
Tackling Transportation
- Fought for commuter rail, providing alternative transportation and generating money for road projects.
- Supported toll road authority to build Rte. 3 bypass and alternative ways to pay for transportation projects in light of cuts in federal and state funds.
- Advancing transportation bond projects.
My Philosophy
Local government should be non-partisan and focused on finding solutions to the challenges we face. I am Hap Connors, and I’m running for re-election to the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors, representing the Chancellor District.
I work for the people, not a party. I work for results, not rhetoric.
I work hard as an Independent to unite people to create opportunities and find common ground and commonsense solutions. I leave the political games for others to play. Each day, I work with and for the people to create a better community now and for the future. With that shared goal in mind, I’ve consistently supported investments in education, public safety, transportation, recreational amenities – the building blocks of any great community, which generate economic progress, grow jobs and keep taxes low.
